Flora 2021 | Oils

‘Flora’ is a unique body of work for me. The shift from landscape painting was prompted by the period of COVID-19 lockdown early in 2020, when I began to focus on my immediate environment. I turned my attention to painting the flowers, eucalyptus leaves, gum nuts and seed pods that I found in my backyard and on daily walks to the Brisbane River. Then, as restrictions eased, I ventured to collect Australian native plants from further afield and became a regular visitor at the local flower markets. It’s been an enjoyable and totally absorbing project. The opportunity arose to show the paintings at The Richard Randall Art Studio in Brisbane’s Mount Coot-Tha Botanic Gardens, which must be the perfect venue for the exhibition.
